WAYS TO WELLBEING

This map was a key part of a Health, Wellbeing and Sustainability project at Southmead Hospital that has been shortlisted for the Culture Health and Wellbeing Alliance 2021 Climate Award.

Working on the content with artist Kate Targett, our map is designed to improve wellbeing of staff and patients by facilitating better engagement with outside spaces.

Walking and running routes, access to the green spaces, suggestions for outdoor meeting spaces and wildlife areas, all aim to change people's perspective of the site.

There are even areas marked for listening for birdsong – lovely!

The project also included creating a measured 'route to recovery’ rehabilitation circuit with way-markers on the pavement outside and within the building.

“Why do we need good designers? Good design enhances our world. It means patients are safter, get better quicker, and it helps retain our staff.”
